Convert VTT subtitles to plain text
Copy the words out of a WebVTT file — from a lecture, a webinar or a downloaded video. The header, notes, timestamps, cue settings and tags such as <v Anna> are removed.
Runs entirely in your browser. Your subtitles are never uploaded.
A new paragraph starts after a pause of 2 seconds or more.
How to convert VTT to TXT
- Paste the WebVTT subtitles or choose a .vtt file.
- Leave one cue per line or tick “Join into paragraphs”, then click “Convert to text”.
- Copy the text or download the .txt file.
Questions
- What happens to speaker names in voice tags?
- Tags such as <v Anna> are removed together with the name in them. If you need the names, they have to be written in the text of the cues.
- Can I get paragraphs instead of short lines?
- Yes. Tick “Join into paragraphs”: the cues run on as continuous text, with a new paragraph after each pause of 2 seconds or more.
- Are NOTE and STYLE blocks included?
- No. Only cues with a time line become text; the WEBVTT header, notes and style blocks are skipped.
- Are my files uploaded anywhere?
- Runs entirely in your browser. Your subtitles are never uploaded.
