Convert ASS and SSA subtitles to SRT
ASS and SSA files from subtitle editors and fan translations carry styles, positions and effects that many players, TVs and editors ignore. The tool takes every Dialogue line, keeps its text and times, and writes a plain SRT file.
Runs entirely in your browser. Your subtitles are never uploaded.
How to convert ASS to SRT
- Paste the contents of the .ass or .ssa file or choose the file.
- Click “Convert to SRT”.
- Check the result and download the .srt file.
Questions
- What is kept from the ASS file?
- The text of every Dialogue line with its start and end time, line breaks, and italic, bold and underline. The subtitles are put in time order.
- What is lost?
- Fonts, colours, positions, karaoke timing and other effects, because SRT cannot store them. Vector drawings and Comment lines are skipped.
- What about lines drawn twice for an effect?
- If the file has the same text at exactly the same times more than once — common for outlines and shadows on separate layers — it becomes one subtitle.
- Are my files uploaded anywhere?
- Runs entirely in your browser. Your subtitles are never uploaded.
