How long does it take to transcribe one hour of audio?
About six to seven hours of typing for an hour of interview, depending on the quality of the recording, according to an article on qualitative interviews in the BMJ (Britten, 1995). Difficult recordings take longer.
Can I use my own pace?
Yes. Enter your own norm — hours of work per hour of recording — and the calculator uses it instead.
What about automatic transcription?
You don't type the text: you read it and correct the mistakes. The calculator shows how long listening to all the recordings once takes — that is what checking against the recording needs.
