Change the speed of a recording

Make a recording faster or slower — from half speed to double — while voices keep their natural pitch. Useful for long lectures and voice notes, or for slowing down fast speech to write it down.

Your file never leaves your device. It is converted right here, in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

How to do it

  1. Choose a recording — MP3, M4A, WAV, a voice note or a video.
  2. Set the speed: below 1× is slower, above 1× is faster.
  3. Click “Change speed”, listen to the result and download it as MP3 or WAV.

Questions

Will the voice sound higher or lower?
No. Only the tempo changes: the recording is cut into short overlapping pieces that are fitted back together closer or further apart, so the pitch stays the same. At the extreme speeds speech can sound a little choppy.
How much faster or slower can I make it?
From 0.5× (half speed, twice as long) to 2× (double speed, half as long), in steps of 0.05.
Does it work with video files?
Yes. Choose an MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM video and you get its sound at the new speed as an MP3 or WAV file. The picture is not kept.
