Remove silence from a recording

Pauses longer than the length you choose are shortened to about a third of a second, so the words don't run together. At the end you see how many pauses were shortened and how much time was removed.

Your file never leaves your device. It is converted right here, in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Questions

Will it cut quiet words?
Only stretches that stay below the silence level for longer than the pause you set are shortened. If quiet speech gets cut, choose “Only near-total silence” and try again.
Why is a short pause left in?
Without any pause the sentences would run into each other. Each long pause is shortened to about a third of a second, with a smooth transition so there is no click.
Can I remove silence from a video?
Yes. Choose the video and you get its sound without the long pauses as an MP3 or WAV file. The picture is not kept.
