Convert WAV to MP3

WAV files from recorders, microphones and editing programs are big. As an MP3 (128 kb/s) the same recording takes several times less space and is easy to send.

Your file never leaves your device. It is converted right here, in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Questions

How much smaller will the MP3 be?
A minute of stereo WAV at 44.1 kHz takes about 10 MB; the same minute as a 128 kb/s MP3 takes about 1 MB. A mono WAV shrinks less — about five times.
Which WAV files does it read?
Ordinary uncompressed WAV — 16, 24 and 32-bit, mono or stereo — and telephone μ-law WAV. Rare compressed variants, such as ADPCM from some dictaphones, this browser may not read; the tool tells you so before converting.
Will I lose quality?
MP3 is a compressed format, so it removes the detail the ear notices least. For speech, 128 kb/s is plenty; if you plan to edit the recording further, keep the original WAV too.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
Your file never leaves your device. It is converted right here, in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
